Analytics on this site

This site collects a small amount of anonymous usage data, and this page explains exactly what and why. Nothing here is linked to you, to your student record, or to your marks.

What is collected

The site uses GoatCounter, an open-source analytics tool that does not use cookies and does not track you across websites. For each page view it records:

  • the page you looked at, and the page you arrived from
  • your browser, operating system, screen size and country
  • whether you interacted with one of the interactive widgets in the notes, and which one
  • whether you opened the PDF version of a week’s notes, and which week

This is the reason for tracking: the widgets take effort to build, and I would like to know whether they are worth building for the remaining weeks. The count records that a widget was used, once per visit — not what you did with it, not how long for, and not in what order.

What is not collected

No cookies. No name, email, student ID, IP address or any other identifier is stored. GoatCounter distinguishes one visitor from another using a hash of your IP address and browser version that is held in memory for eight hours and then discarded; it is never written to disk and cannot be reversed. Nothing is shared with advertisers, and the data is not used for anything to do with assessment.

Opting out

Any ad blocker or tracker blocker will stop the counting, as will Do Not Track in some browsers. The widgets and the rest of the site work exactly the same either way, and nothing is lost by blocking it.
